Skylight Replacement in Kahului, HI

Skylight Replacement in Kahului, HI

Skylight replacement in Kahului, HI makes sense when the unit is past saving. Seals fail on double pane glass after about 20 years, acrylic domes turn yellow and brittle, and wood frames soak up water until they go soft. At that point, another tube of sealant buys a season at most.

Kahului, HI Skylight Repair replaces skylights with the same size unit where the rough opening allows it, so we do not have to reframe the roof. We strip the shingles around the old skylight, pull the old flashing, and inspect the deck for rot. Any soft plywood gets cut out and replaced before the new unit goes in.

The new skylight goes in with a fresh manufacturer flashing kit and ice and water membrane lapped up the sides of the curb. We reshingle around it and match the existing roof as close as we can. Inside, we check the light shaft and patch any drywall damage from the old leak.

If you are planning a new roof in the next few years, do the skylight replacement at the same time. The flashing comes off anyway, and you only pay for that labor once.
